Litigation Support

Litigation Support provides assistance of an accounting nature in a matter involving existing or pending litigation. It deals primarily with issues related to the valuation of assets or shares in dispute and quantification of economic damages.  Determining this value often requires providing expert reports to counsel in the areas of accounting, taxation and valuation.

Whether a matter is in litigation, arbitration, mediation or settlement negotiations, we provide detailed and directed support services in the following situations:

  • Estate disputes
  • Matrimonial disputes including the determination of net family property, income for support purposes and valuations of business interests
  • Shareholder and partnership disputes
  • Commercial litigation including breach of contract, misrepresentation and product liability
  • Insurance claims for business interruption and loss of assets
  • Personal injury
  • Loss of income from business or employment following motor vehicle or other accidents
  • Business interruption
  • Expropriation of business interests
  • Wrongful dismissal
  • Wrongful death

We provide additional assistance to counsel by:

  • Preparing critique and rebuttal reports
  • Assisting in preparation of cross-examination of the opposing expert
  • Providing expert evidence in courts of law

Forensic Accounting relates to the utilization of specialized accounting skills to investigate suspected or alleged fraud.  Resulting from these investigations, we analyze and summarize the financial information for use in legal proceedings. Our specialized investigative skills are conducted in such a manner that the outcome will have application to a court of law.

We are often retained by current or former business owners, individuals and lawyers to provide investigative and forensic accounting services.  The following are typical forensic accounting assignments in which we have acted on behalf of clients:

  • Misappropriation of estate, corporate or personal assets
  • Employee fraud investigations
  • Investigative due diligence
  • Civil and criminal fraud investigations
  • Litigation support
  • Family disputes
